By SU Public Relations

SALISBURY, MD---Ariene Ohimor of 石榴视频 has received the 2025 石榴视频 Outstanding Graduate Student Award.

Graduating this semester with an M.S. in health and human performance, Ohimor has served as a graduate assistant at SU’s Richard A. Henson Medical Simulation Center. There, she has collaborated with her nominators, Dr. Kevin Glover, center director, and Rachel Burton, standardized patient program coordinator, along with Dr. Leslie Swift, assistant professor of health science, on the project “Pilot Testing of a Digestive System Anatomy Board Game – A Deliberate Practice Study Aid for Undergraduate Health Sciences Students.” The initiative involves designing and evaluating a nutrition-themed card game to reinforce anatomy concepts through deliberate practice.

At the center, she also has worked closely with students and faculty to enhance understanding of anatomy and physiology using Anatomage digital cadaver technology, supporting six courses that have integrated that innovation into their curriculum. As a teaching assistant, she also has led undergraduate labs and assisted with lesson planning in courses including Exercise Physiology, Fitness Testing, Fitness Instruction, and Lifestyle Behaviors for Personal Health and Wellness.

In addition, Ohimor served as a student researcher under Dr. Zachary Townsend, assistant professor of exercise science, on the study “Assessment of Physical Activity Environment in Rural Community Parks: An Audit of Maryland’s Eastern Shore.” She received a $2,500 Student Summer Research Award and $750 Graduate Research and Presentation Grant to support her involvement.

Through the project, researchers conducted formal park audits to assess quality, amenity availability and accessibility at 16 public parks on the Lower Eastern Shore, comparing the scores to public health metrics in surrounding communities to explore correlations between those environments and health indicators such as obesity rates and quality of life. Findings were shared at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine’s annual meeting and at two SU-sponsored research events.

Ohimor also has been active in additional campus and academic events, including several connected to SU’s College of Health and Human Services.

“Through my research, teaching, clinical work and University service, I have aimed to embody the values of leadership, innovation and inclusion within the health sciences,” she said. “石榴视频 has provided me with a platform to grow as a scholar, educator and advocate for student-centered learning. I look forward to continuing to contribute meaningfully to our academic community.”

Prior to enrolling in SU’s M.S. in health and human performance program, Ohimor earned her B.S. in exercise science from the University in 2023. She grew up in Stoughton, MA.
